Healing

Isaac had another eye exam yesterday to be certain that the ROP eye issue is still improving. The great news is that it is getting better, in other words the are healing and he is growing out of it! We are so excited that as the doctor put it "he is progressing nicely out of ROP". We are getting the monitor memory downloaded tomorrow. This is where they will be able to tell if the alarms that we have had are true alarms. We are hopeful for a good report in this area as well. Isaac has not had an alarm in quite a while. His nightly sleeping is also getting better. I am not sure if I am getting more sleep but at least I am not sleeping in the chair as long. I think I am even getting longer periods of sleep in my own bed. We are amazed at how much he has progressed. The NICUs across the US call Caucasian boys wimpy white boys because they are typically the ones that progress the slowest whenborn premature. If you look at isaac, he looks anything but wimpy! He is strong and chunky! He is getting a double chin and looks just like a little 2 1/2 month old baby. I know he will be six months old on the 12th but he is sure looking good!

As for his sister....she still amazes David and me. Tonight she and David were going over a scripture In Ephesians. David started out the verse and arianna finished it for him. If I wasn't standing there listening I wouldn't have believed it. She has such a good memory! Tonight she saidS:"when we have my birthday party...." I wasn't sure I was going to have q birthday party for her... But I guess she thinks I am.

Sorry it has been so long since I have written. Time flies these weeks. I am falling asleep now and I need to stay awake to fold a load of laundry and make a lunch for tomorrow!

Trying new things

I have heard our pastor say many times that insanity is doing the same thing over & over and expect different results. So I have heard of a new book on sleeping for babies. There are a lot of good ideas. I have started implementing some of them. I know I can help Isaac to sleep longer it is just a matter of time. I haven't mentioned it in quite some time but I am still having a lot of back and shoulder pain. There is still numbness that comes and goes in my left hand. Over the past few days I have had a great pain in my right wrist. My doctor says that sleep will help my body to heal. I also know that it will help Isaac too. So we are on a quest to get at least 3 hours of consecutive sleep in one night. I know it will be a tremendous help.

Isaac is smiling and cooing. They are adorable sounds. It is great to see him express joy. His life has had a rough start but he will live up to the meaning of his name "He will laugh"! He is still dealing with reflux. We can sometimes hear his tummy gurgle with it. Then he let's out a big scream and cough... This too cannot stay! We are fighting it with a lot of prayer and know that it is a matter of time before it leaves his body!

Arianna had a cold over the weekend where she was down for about 4 days. She nonetheless still had a joy about her. She woke up one morning with a hoarse voice and says "I sound like a man." we don't know how she comes up with these things! She is so smart. We have been reading Go Dog Go by dr. Seuss. One part is wear a girl dog has a hat on and asks a boy dog "do you like my hat?" tonight she and David were going to target and she was wearing a hat... She came up and asked me "do you like my hat?" I said I do not like your hat. I wanted to see what she would say. She got it right! She answered just like the book. She said "goodbye!"

Today is David's birthday! He is such a good dad and husband. I am so glad that he asked me to marry him! Sometimes I think we have too much fun to be adults and have been married for 7 years!

Sleepy boy

Isaac has been sleeping since we arrived home from the babysitters tonight! Evidently he is having a growth spurt or something. I actually catnapped on the couch for about 30 minutes myself before going to bed. I have been adding the rice cereal to his formula at night. Although i have finally found a bottle nipple that will allow the thicker liquid to come out, I haven't noticed that it has made much of a difference. I have had to throw out quite a bit because I would make a mixture before he goes to bed to get his tummy full so he would hopefully sleep longer. Then he would suck so much, when nothing was coming out, it would tucker him out which would cause him to sleep! Maybe that is the real reason to add rice to the bottle?

Evidently Arianna is planning on going home with my mom & dad. They are coming to visit and tonight she tells me she has her blanket and pillow packed! I think she is ready because David & I have been on her about telling us the truth. It starts young and innocent but lying really doesn't produce a good child, teen or adult. She asked for juice to drink tonight. I asked her if she had some in the morning as we don't like her to have too much. She told me she didn't have any. Then I thought about it and remembered she had. Talking her through why to tell the truth she started saying "when I get bigger I will tell the truth." so our training continues. She did however decide water would be okay to drink tonight. She told me her tummy was asking for the water....

snow and purple boots

I definitely have a girlie girl.  I bought Arianna some new snow boots and she wants to wear them every day.  When we walk outside she has to walk in the snow in them.  She says that when grandma and grandpa come up this weekend they will jump in the snow with her.  Get ready grandma and grandpa... bring those snow boots.  Arianna really likes the snow.  David and I are going to have to purchase a sled.  This weekend would have been perfect days to go sleding.  However, today it was in the 40s...

Isaac is definitely developing.  He is developing relatively on time for a 2 month old child.  When David or I say his name he will turn his head and look at us.  David has been playing with him and can get him pretty excited to where he squeals with delight.  I don't seem to have that effect.  I think my effect is more "where's my food mommy?"  which is alright.  I don't mind.  I like to snuggle with him at night when it is only him and me.  It is also fun to sing in his ear.  He really likes to hear singing.

I started to teach Arianna how to make her bed.  We will see how that goes.  She was pretty intrigued when I started.  She happened to be sitting on her bed while I was showing her for the first time.  She said "I better get off my bed." so I think she understands the concept... we'll see.  I know it is a big task for an almost 3 year old but she seems to be past her age in figuring things out anyway.  Today we were driving and a white pick up truck drove by with green tires.  I saw it and thought it looked funny.  The next thing I hear  is "that pick up truck has green tire."  I remarked at how observant she is...

Sorry for the delay in blogging.  time has run away from me this past week.

Have a great week.

Sleepless in Elgin

Well we are back to not sleeping very well. Isaac was up about every 45 minutes to every hour last night. Yikes.. I finally just gave up and just shut the light off and slept in the rocking chair in his room...

Today David took Isaac to the pediatrician for his monthly check up. He weighed in at 10 lbs 7ounces. The pediatrician suggested for him to sleep on his stomach to see if that will help the sleeplessness. She also suggested to add infant rice cereal to his formula to see if that will help some of the effects of reflux. She also suggested adding the vitamins with iron back in because he really needs them. He also had an eye exam follow up again. It showed further improvement on the concern of ROP. That is a definite praise.

We have had such good weather that David picked up Arianna from the sitters early today and actually took her to a park...in January....in Illinois! She swang and slid down some slides. Tomorrow there is a forecast for snow!

Tonight Arianna keeps saying "Talinda hold me." It is so funny to hear her say my name. Right now she and David are sharing a hot chocolate. She took a sip and says "it isn't too shabby!"

Glad it is Wednesday! Come on weekend where I can sleepin until 6 am!

Smiles & Sleep!

Well everyone we are on our way to more sleep @ night! For the past 3 nights I have gotten about 1 to 2 more hours of sleep. It doesn't sound like much but it truly makes a difference.
Since we eliminated the vitamins with iron and I have been fasting from sugar I believe that those two changes have helped Isaac's digestive system. Not certain but at this point I will take it and move forward on getting the reflux and cough to lessen. Sometimes when the reflux happens I can actually hear it in his throat or tummy. This morning he actually smiled a cooed at David! It was so adorable! To see him finally respond to someone talking to him. We went to church today and it seems as everyone wants to see the boy they have heard so much about! I have noticed people love babies. Sometimes I stop and think everyone started out a baby! Everyone!

Yesterday arianna watched a curious George movie. It talked about bones in the body since George had broken one of his. The kids traced themselves and drew the bones that they felt, onto the tracing. I had a large piece of paper that I had been intending to trace Arianna's body like I had done in grade school. I wanted her to be able to draw her face and hair and such...well she drew her face (including her dimples) gave herself some blue eyes and purple
hair. Then she proceeded to reiterate the curious George movie. Talking about bones and what they do. I was amazed at her comprehension after only having watched it two times.

Have a great week!

Wednesday, January 4

I hope the new year is treating everyone well. We are back to work at our school. It is nice to be in a routine again. I have started a sugar fast because I find myself not fitting into the clothes that I could when I returned to work in December! Hoping it comes off as fast as it came on! Maybe it will get the hint that it isn't welcome and leave.

I am still waiting for my Christmas gift from Isaac. The only thing I asked for was sleep...maybe he is holding out for when I will be completely surprised and not expecting his gift! I could only hope!

He has had some apnea episodes where his breathing slows and the monitor alarms. However they are quick and his color always looks good. When David took Isaac to the pulmonologist this week the dr asked if we wanted to get rid of the monitor. We both agreed we should keep it for a little bit longer. However, we can officially get rid of the oxygen tanks!

Arianna likes to listen to what she calls "bible songs". Tonight on the ride home she is singing along with it and is singing "He is able, He is able, He is able just now". She also walked in the house and says "let's watch church on the iPad". Another reason why we are glad we bought the iPad, so we can watch and listen to a church service anywhere in the house. David and I both agree that this is the funnest age with Arianna so far. There isn't a day that goes by that we aren't all laughing together. This morning she said "after I go to the mackinneyminney's you come pick me and Isaac up after work?" I told her yes and then when we get home daddy will be home...she screams with joy and says "I love being home with you, daddy and Isaac." I pray this excitement lasts well into adulthood!
